Colombia gave the world its finest emeralds, cut to take the light. It kept its other green treasure quieter. Oro Verde, green gold, handles that coffee the way the emerald trade handles stones: each lot traced to the hillside it came from, written down, and gone when it's gone.
Standing in Colombia
Oro Verde was started by Giovanni Stephens, who is half Kiwi and half Colombian and still has family there. His brother works with our partner in Colombia to find each lot and vet it before we offer it. We've spent several months talking with exporters there to find the coffees on this site.
Traced to the hillside
Colombia only. Depth over breadth: the house crosses departments and cosechas, never countries.
Every lot has a record of what we know about it: the variety and the process, then the grower, the place, the altitude and the cup score as each is confirmed. When a lot sells out, it stays on the site marked gone.
Landing here
The lots on this site are proposed for a first small courier shipment to prove the route, with only a few kilos of each. What roasters ask for decides which ones come in. After that, the plan is to hold stock here in the South Island and send it out in small amounts, so you can buy a rare lot without importing it yourself.
